2024 Outing, Minnesota

Tucked into the woods on Lake Washburn, this unassuming 1970s cabin quietly awaited its Cinderella moment. Although its bones were good, the original faux-wood pressboard paneling, wall-to-wall carpeting, and single-pane double-hung windows made for a dark and dated interior. Envisioning a cozy space filled with natural light, Edgerton & Co. embarked upon a full-scale renovation, leaving next to nothing untouched. Whether it was building a south-facing dormer, sourcing salvaged natural birch interior doors, installing in-floor heat and white oak floors, or adding a 9-foot sliding door for a beautiful lake view, every detail was handled with thought and purpose. Paying homage to Lloyd, who first built the cabin, we preserved key features of the cabin’s original charm, including the hand-built stone fireplace (made with stones collected from the surrounding land), rough-sawn board and batten siding, and decorative fascia. With the added design flourishes of Studio Day Design, this northwoods retreat is now a warm and welcoming reflection of its new owners, ready for year-round enjoyment

“When first walking into this cabin, I was overwhelmed by its dreary wear-and-tear and couldn’t see its potential. If left to my own devices, I never would have moved forward with the purchase. Thankfully I had the visionary support of Edgerton & Co. to assure me this was a diamond in the rough. And indeed it was. I never could have imagined this breathtaking result, which is so far beyond anything I could have dreamed. The Edgerton team was committed to revitalizing this cabin in the spirit of its history, surroundings, and inhabitants, creating a personally expressive and meaningful space that will last well into the next generation.”

Working with a contractor who is truly invested in the design, not just the build, is what sets Edgerton & Co. apart. Charlie and his team don’t take the shortcuts that so many others prefer. I feel lucky to have gotten to build out a beautiful project with them and hope to do more in the future.”
